Kaplow Moderates Social Media Panel

At PR Newswire’s Authentic Communications 2008 Conference on April 24, 2008, Kaplow’s General Manager David Herrick moderated a panel discussion that included fellow experts Bill Flitter (CEO of Pheedo, a RSS Advertising Company), John Hellerman (Co-Founder of Hellerman Baretz Communications) and Steve Rubel (Micropersuasion Blog and SVP, Edelman Digital). The panel’s topic was “How to Get Budget for Authentic Communications and Social Media Investments.”

The panelists quickly agreed that the lines between PR, marketing and advertising have become blurred with new media. Several of the panelists noted that they are spending more time with CMOs and Brand Marketing than they are with the Corporate Communications or PR departments. A lively discussion ensued with various challenges discussed from the issue of CMO turnover to the ongoing struggle to measure social media programs. In the end, the panelists agreed that CMOs will become much more comfortable with the concept of social media programs as accepted metrics are established. They also see great opportunity as, in the words of one panelist, “the giant television advertising budgets are shaking loose.”
